The Russo Roundup

Welcome to the first edition of the Russo Roundup

Our aim is to keep you informed of everything that is happening at the practice

New Staff Member

The staff at Russo & associates would like to extend and official welcome to our new Optometrist Vanessa Greasley

Vanessa joined the team in October this year, having graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2006.  Vanessa has spent the past four years in general practice in both Geelong and Gippsland.

Vanessa along with Norm, Sashini and Clare will now be able to offer more available appointment times than ever before

Vanessa has strong links to the Dandenong community, growing up in Scoresby and attending Caulfield Grammar.  Vanessa first came to Russo & Associates as a patient when she was an impressionable 12 year old.

We look forward to working with Vanessa, and know that our patients will appreciate the enthusiasm and professionalism that she will add to our practice

An Eye Opening Experience In Sumba

The Sumba Eye Program, established in 2007, is a program focussed on delivering eyecare services to the people of Sumba, an island located between the islands of Bali and Timor.

With a population of around 700,000 people, there are no optometrists or Eye Surgeons on the entire island.  Similar in its landscape to some parts of Australia, a high proportion of the population live in isolated areas.  As a result of the demographic distribution, access to available medical service is limited.

Norm was honoured to be invited to join the Sumba Eyecare team to make up the volunteer group of 3 Optometrists, 2 nurses and 2 Ophthalmologists who visited the island of Sumba Indonesia in September this year, to provide life changing eyecare for the locals.

During the week long mission, Norm and the team examined 581 people, dispensed 444 pairs of glasses, and 75 surgical procedures were performed - including cataracts, pterygiums, cysts and injuries.

If you would like to help change someone's life, you can make a donation to Optometry Giving Sight at the practice or by visiting www.giving sight.org

Dandenong Gets A Makeover

The plan to revitalise central Dandenong, Australia's second-biggest urban renewal project after Melbourne Docklands, is a 15 to 20 year project.  Overseen by VicUrban, it involves $250 million in state government spending and is expected to generate $1 billion in private investment.

Lonsdale Street is set to become one of Melbourne's great boulevards, and once again, the heart of central Dandenong.  Construction works will see traffic moving more slowly and easily, with safer pedestrian crossings, wider footpaths and a more pleasant street environment.  New cycle path, more trees, improved lighting and integrated public art is also planned.

The current works are due for completion early 2011.  So if you are coming to the practice during this time please ensure you allow extra time for traffic and parking.  The best place to park is in front of Ritchie\'s Supermarket on Lonsdale street southern side (Dandenong creek).  There is also ample parking opposite the practice in front of the Dandenong Magistrates Court

What's New At The Practice

It's not just Dandenong that's undergoing a makeover, so is the practice.  Russo & Associates have recently completed a fit out of a new consult room, special test room and a vision therapy room.

The addition of these rooms will provide more space, additional testing hours and better patient care.  We would really like to show you the changes so pop in and take a guided grand tour.
