Examining the retina can be quite a challenge. The Optomap ultra-wide digital retinal scanning system captures more than 80% of your retina in one image. This allows our optometrists to detect even the earliest signs of disease that can be present on your retina. These images become a permanent part of your records which allow us to compare changes over time.


The Wilkins Intuitive Colorimeter is used to very precisely determine coloured lenses that may be of benefit in cases of migraine, MS, epilepsy and some types of reading difficulty where patterns of high contrast text becomes stressful to look at. This is sometimes also known as Meares-Irlen syndrome. We follow very strict guidelines that have been developed for the use and prescribing of coloured lenses. This follows research done under the auspices of the British medical research council.


Blephasteam is a new way to treat dry eye, blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction and other disorders of the lid margin and ocular surface. The Blephasteam uses warmth and moisture to naturally improve the tear quality.

Corneal Topography

Corneal Topography is 3D mapping technology that allows the detailed surface shape of your cornea (front of the eye) to be imaged. This can be used for looking at corneal shape changes as a result of corneal disease. It is also used for the accurate fitting of hard contact lenses and orthokeratology (sleep lenses) that reshape the cornea.

I care Tonometer

For those who don't like drops when having their eye pressures measured when testing for glaucoma. This device, can measure the internal pressure of the eye without the need for eye drops.


This device measures the thickness of your cornea to within a millionth of a metre. This is critical when assessing if raised pressure is due to fluid pressure in the eye or a thick cornea. It is also important for pre-assessment for laser vision correction or keratoconus.
