Do you experience itchy eyes?

Dry eye, blepharitis

One of the main causes of itchy eyes, especially itchy eyelids, is a condition called blepharitis. Blepharitis is very common among all age groups and is caused by a build up of debris along the eyelashes, often appearing as crusting.

This can be caused by a number of reasons, including dermatitis, bacterial build up or even a critter called Demodex who love living around the eyelashes! This crusting can cause inflammation resulting in red, irritated and itchy eyelids and eyes. (for those who are feeling brave, check out this YouTube video explaination.)

We have always relied on patients being very diligent with scrubbing their eyelids to try to keep this condition at bay…....until now!

BlephEx is a new, in-office procedure that allows us to clean the eyelashes and remove the debris for you. It is a painless and quick process using a specialised eyelash shampoo and a spinning brush to buff the eyelashes clean.

Patients experience an almost immediate improvement in symptoms and do not require any further treatment for least 6 months!  This can not only save patients months of discomfort, but also time and money otherwise spent on lid scrubs and eyedrops.

If this sounds like you, check out our dry eye page for further information about this condition, or book an appointment to see one of our experienced optometrists!
